San Diego conferences to explore clean energy and efficient propulsion systems
June 30, 2011 ? Reston, Va. ? Energy conversion technology, advanced energy and power systems, energy conversion engineering, and advanced, reliable and clean propulsion systems will be among the topics discussed at the San Diego Convention Center, San Diego, Calif., on July 31?August 3 at the 9th International Energy Conversion Engineering Conference (IECEC) and the 47th Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit (JPC). IECEC is hosted by AIAA, and JPC is jointly organized by AIAA and the American Society for Mechanical Engineers, SAE International, and the American Society of Engineering Education.
The 9th IECEC, through keynote addresses, panel discussions, and technical sessions, will explore the future of advanced energy systems and how government, academia, and industry can work together toward greater use of clean energy. Subjects to be discussed include large scale implementation of renewable energy resources, alternative fuels and sustainable energy systems, advances in energy storage technology, green energy requirements in the current economy, and advanced power system research, development, and implementation.
The 47th JPC will present keynote addresses, panel discussions, and technical sessions highlighting how the innovative aerospace propulsion technologies powering both new and evolving systems are being designed, tested, and flown. Topics of discussion include next generation commercial aircraft and business jets, military applications, supersonic/hypersonic high speed propulsion applications, launch systems, orbital insertion, and satellite and interstellar propulsion.
The joint conferences will begin with a keynote address by Lt. Gen. John T. "Tom" Sheridan, commander, U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center. Additional keynote speakers include Elon Musk, chief executive officer and chief technical officer, SpaceX, Elizabeth "Liz" Porter, director, corporate energy initiatives, Lockheed Martin Corporation, Stuart Hemphill, senior vice president, power supply, Southern California Edison, The Honorable Zachary J. Lemnios, assistant undersecretary of defense for research and engineering, and John Foulkes, director, Defense Test and Resource Management Center.
The 9th IECEC is sponsored by Battelle Memorial Institute and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. Battery Power Magazine is the IECEC media supporter. Additional supporters of the 9th IECEC are the Heat Transfer Society of Japan, the IEEE Aerospace & Electronics Systems Society, the Egyptian Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers. The 47th JPC is sponsored by the Air Force Research Laboratory, GE, Jacobs Engineering/Aerospace Testing Alliance, Sierra Nevada Corporation, and SpaceX.
